Jay Park (Hangul: 박재범; Korean name: Park Jae-beom), born April 25, 1987, in Edmonds (Washington, USA) is an American singer, rapper, dancer, songwriter, music producer, choreographer and entrepreneur. Emerging as one of the most influential figures in contemporary Korean hip hop and R&B, Jay Park has played a pivotal role in reshaping South Korea’s music industry by bridging underground hip hop culture with mainstream popular music while advocating for artistic autonomy and creative independence. Jay Park first rose to prominence as the leader of the idol group 2PM (7) under , before departing the group in 2009. His subsequent transition from idol to independent hip hop and R&B artist marked a critical turning point in the Korean music landscape, challenging prevailing notions of genre boundaries, artist credibility, and career trajectories within the K-pop system. Establishing himself outside the idol framework, he gained recognition for his bilingual artistry, genre-blending sound, and emphasis on self-expression, positioning him as a key mediator between Korean and global music markets. In 2013, Jay Park founded the independent hip hop label , which became a cornerstone of South Korea’s modern hip hop scene and a platform for elevating underground artists into mainstream visibility. He later co-founded in 2017, further expanding opportunities for Korean and international artists and reinforcing transnational collaboration within hip hop and R&B. Both labels significantly contributed to the professionalisation and commercial viability of independent music in South Korea, offering an alternative model to major entertainment agencies. Following his departure from AOMG and H1GHR MUSIC, Jay Park founded in 2022, positioning the label as a multidisciplinary creative company focused on long-term artist development, creative control and cross-industry expansion. Through MORE VISION, Jay Park oversees projects that provide artists with greater creative control and involvement in the production process, as seen in the company's first boy group Lngshot. Beyond music production and artist management, Jay Park’s influence extends into cultural entrepreneurship. As the founder of WON SPIRITS, he became the first Korean celebrity to independently produce and market his own brand of traditional Korean liquor, WON SOJU. Collectively, Jay Park’s career reflects a broader shift within the Korean music industry toward decentralisation, hybridisation and artist-led production. His sustained presence across music, business and cultural discourse has established him as a transformative figure whose impact extends beyond commercial success to the structural redefinition of artistic agency in South Korea.
