Rhiannon Giddens (born February 21, 1977) is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, music historian, writer, actor and activist. Raised iin Greensboro, North Carolina, USA, she was a founding member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops. She has released a number of albums under her own name, including two with her partner, Francesco Turrisi. Has been appointed Artistic Director of The Silk Road Ensemble in 2020. She has won two Grammys (from ten nominations) and a Pulitzer Prize. She is an honorary Doctor of Letters from the University of North Carolina. (Her sister is Lalenja Harrington.)
